With videogame since I was in diapers

Hey, how's it going? I'm so glad you took the time to check out my portfolio and made it this far because you're curious to learn more about me.

My name is Jacobo Lorente Gamboa. I was born in 2005 in Madrid, Spain.

ABOUT ME

For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by video games. I didn’t have consoles or devices to play on back then, so whenever I saw someone gaming, I’d be completely captivated just watching them. I’d even find ways to play Angry Birds on my babysitter’s phone or borrow anyone else's device for a quick game. Occasionally, my dad would let me use his computer, and that's where I started playing small browser games online. It wasn’t until I turned seven that I got my first console: a PSP. Honestly, it’s still the console I’ve enjoyed the most in my life. I look back on that time with so much nostalgia. Back then, we could enjoy games purely with our imagination, without caring about graphics or realism. I’d lose myself in other worlds like Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet and Clank, and Vice City Stories. I remember my mom would forbid me from playing “games for adults,” as she called them, but I always found a way to play them without her catching me. When I was ten, I started playing Minecraft on my dad’s computer, which led me to install Steam. That opened the door to online multiplayer games like Team Fortress, Garry’s Mod, and other shooters. That era was a golden age for me. I had a blast gaming with my friends back then, even though my dad’s computer was limited to 15 FPS and couldn’t handle more demanding games. Fast forward to today, and I’m still gaming on PC. My current top 3 favorite video games are: Bully (released in 2008 by Rockstar Games). It’s a sharp critique of youth and teachers in the school environment. The humor, characters, and pacing of the story made me enjoy it so much that hours would fly by while I played. Cyberpunk 2077. It launched in 2020 with tons of bugs, but luckily, I didn’t play it until 2023 after most of the issues had been fixed. I had an amazing experience. During those first hours, I was completely blown away. The graphics, characters, sound design, music, the vast world, and the ability to make decisions all of it felt surreal. I can't imagine the amount of work that went into making it, and the story felt incredibly immersive. As technology and AI advance, the game's themes, like brain chips and body modifications, feel closer to reality. Do you think our 2077 will look like that? Outlast 1 & 2. Without a doubt, my favorite horror game series. Instead of relying on cheap jump scares, it creates real fear. Its universe feels so original, and the character designs are top-notch. I also admire how they use lighting. To see in the dark, you have to use the night vision on your camera, and the in-game lighting is subtle yet cleverly guides you.

Addicted to Cinema

At the same time I grew up playing video games, I also grew up watching movies, especially with my dad. Near our house, there was a library where we used to go on weekends to pick out different DVDs. The library was divided into two sections: children’s and adults’. At first, I picked movies from my section, but at a very young age, I started grabbing movies from the adult section. My favorite genre was horror and zombies. I’m not lying when I say that by the age of nine, I had already watched every scary movie the library had. (The Exorcist, Night of the Living Dead, The Ring). And if you’re wondering if I was scared watching them, the answer is yes, they did frighten me. But isn’t that the fun of it? To this day, I’m still searching for a movie that makes me feel that sense of terror again. That’s where my love for cinema started to grow, and I have to say that I find older cinema much better than what we have today. I feel a great void in today’s films, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. My favorite directors are Martin Scorsese and Stanley Kubrick. And my favorite actors are Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. It’s hard to choose which of all movies is my favorite. But right now, I’m in love with The Devil’s Advocate. Al Pacino’s performance is incredible, the script is amazing, and the message about free will is simply brilliant. If you’re reading this, you have to watch it,it’ll be the best 2 hours and 24 minutes of your day. I’m still young and have many titles left to watch and many more to fully understand. In the meantime, I keep watching films and reading about them whenever I have the time. I also write ideas and develop scripts. My dream is to release a movie worldwide in commercial theaters. And I’m sure that one day I’ll make it happen.

Fortunately, I’ve had an upbringing filled with values. However, there are two fundamental principles I’ve learned throughout my life that I carry with me every day.

  1. You will get wherever you want to go the limit is where you decide to set it. Wanting is power, and that’s something I’ve proven to myself. Every time I’ve truly wanted something with all my heart and put in the effort to achieve it, I’ve reached that goal. I always say I don’t have dreams I have goals. Dreams are seen as distant, even "impossible" by many. Things don’t just happen because you wish for them; you have to seek them out, work for them every day, and be disciplined. I’m very obsessive about my goals they’re my priority, and I don’t stop until I achieve them.

  2. Everything is a lesson; whatever you do, do it with passion. There are often tough times in life, moments that can feel heavy. But when the storm passes and we look back, we find ourselves drenched in new lessons and learnings that make us better people. I am grateful for both the good and the bad in life because it has shaped who I am today. That’s why everything I do, I do with love, with a smile, giving my best, and pouring every drop of sweat into it.
